Debunking Paint Protection Film Myths

This guide will show you the most common myths and misconceptions customers have when looking for paint protection films.

paint protection film

Paint protection films have been used for several decades and the first instance was when it was first made in the Vietnam war to protect helicopter blades from getting damaged. However, over the last decade, its use has shifted to cars and it is becoming more frequently that it is one of the best ways to protect your car’s exterior.

Just like any product in the market, paint protection films have undergone rigorous changes in accordance with technology and it is easy to get a few myths floating around especially from mediocre companies. This guide will show you the most common myths and misconceptions customers have when looking for paint protection films.

1. Paint Protection Film Is Difficult To Install

Just like any vehicle modification, paint protection films require finesse and more importantly professional help to install. How good a PPF will be installed will depend on the skillset of the installer as well as their patience. The only time you’d think paint protection films are difficult to install is when you are doing it by yourself. We rarely recommend going the DIY way when installing PPF in vehicles.

2. The Films Crack On Exposure To The Sun

This myth would be true for some of the older versions of PPFs. But due to technological advances, PPF companies no longer use PVC and instead have materials that are made to last long. The new material is also free of discoloration or cracking as a result of sun exposure. As long as you don’t fall into the trap of getting an older model, current PPFs should be fine with the sun rays.

3. The Film Might Damage Your Car

Another reason why some car owners shy from using paint protection films is that they think they damage the underlying paint of the car. This is not true at all, as PPFs only stick to your car’s exterior to an incredibly tight fit, but will not affect the paint when removed. The only issue with PPFs is that if you try to remove the paint alone, there is a higher risk of chipping off the paint. So, if you’re thinking of removing your paint protection film, it is best to consult a professional to do it for you.

4 . You Can’t Add Wax To A Paint Protection Film Layer In A Car

Well, this is yet another wrong misconception people have about PPFs. Paint protection films are not a type of wrap and adding wax will do absolutely nothing other than adding an extra layer of protection.

5. All Paint Protection Films Are The Same

PPFs are never the same as the manufactures vary from place to place. This brings about low quality and high-quality PPFs, all of which are available in the market. Cheaper PPFs use the low-tier materials which may not give you the durability or longevity that you’d expect. So, PPFs are not the same at all. However, if you want the high-quality PPFs, make sure they are invisible all the time and are protective enough to prevent your car from getting minor scratches, scuffs, and debris.
